Stewed apples is an amazing dish to make this time of year, as apple season is in full force. It is a delicious dish to get you in the spirit for the upcoming holidays, but it is also a dish that when made correctly, can be packed with herbal and natural nutrients that are perfect for keeping your gut in great health. Apples are in abundance this time of year, as we are at the peak of harvest. Apples have so many health benefits such as lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, improving insulin sensitivity, boosts gut health and much more. Metaphysically, apples represent knowledge and wisdom, as well as health and healing. It is also often used to bring love as it is associated to deities such as Aphrodite and Venus.

You will need:

1lbs organic apples of your choice

Cinnamon Sticks & Ground Cinnamon

Ground nutmeg

Whole Cloves

Salt

Brown Sugar

Locally sourced honey

Organic butter

Pre-heat a good sized pan on low-medium heat. While your pan heats, core and dice up your apples, leaving the skin on for nutrients. Melt your butter in your pan, and throw in your apples and ¼ cup brown sugar. Mix until sugar is fully dissolved. Add in honey to taste, locally sourced honey also helps fight against seasonal allergens and pollen.

Once mixture is at a good simmer, turn heat to low and add about 6 cloves, 4 cinnamon sticks, ground cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. Add a pinch of salt. Mix all of your herbs in and cover, let simmer for up to an hour. Stir occasionally, do not turn heat up.

Once apples are at the desired consistency, remove from heat and transfer apples to a separate container. Jar and store the apple butter separately for a sweet spread to use on baked goods. Make sure you take out the cinnamon sticks and cloves once cool, and enjoy your fall treat!
